hello all, i need a Bluetooth low energy peripheral device in which i can attach a single button to in order to control simple phone operations, i'm not sure what device will work best for this.

If you want to control operations in your own app, nAN-36 and the code here should be a good starting point.
If you want to control the OS on the phone, or generic apps, you'd probably have to make a HID over GATT device, and rely on the HID support of the phone OS. HoG is a pretty complicated service, but there are a couple of examples in the nRF51 SDK that should be useful starting points.
