Recommendation: What examples for BLE linking nRF51DK and Beacon for proximity application?

I have a proximity application where I would like to use the nRF51 DK (PCA10028) and Beacon (PCA20006) with Bluetooth Low Energy. I would like them to automatically link when they are both on and in range of each other. I would then like to use the RSSI to know whether or not they have gone outside of a pre-determined range from each other.

Can someone please recommend example projects for the nRF51 DK and Beacon to get started with this applicaition either through the SDK or GitHub? Which module would be central and which one would be peripheral?

Hi,

I suggest you use the UART example in the SDK. The nRF51-DK can be the central, running the UART Central example located in <SDK_InstallFolder>\examples\ble_central\ble_app_uart_c. The beacon will be the peripheral, running the peripheral example in <SDK_InstallFolder>\examples\ble_peripheral\ble_app_uart.

In order to measure the RSSI, you can use the SoftDevice functions sd_ble_gap_rssi_get(), sd_ble_gap_rssi_start() and sd_ble_gap_rssi_stop(). You can read more about these functions here.

Sigurd, I do not see an example "ble_app_uart" project in the SDK for the beacon (PCA20006).

Is this available for download somewhere outside of the SDK?
