How many connections can one nrf8001 sustain?

Im mainly considerate about ANdroid and iOS devices ,I understand this is also dependent upon profile support over the android and iOS devices but this should not be an issue at all with atleast the flagship ANdroid devices and in iOS everyphone is flagship!

The nRF8001 can only maintain one connection at any one time.

Yes, you can, but this will be limited by the master implementation. It will also be affected by the connection interval and other connections the master device might have, such as WIFI and classic Bluetooth. I think the largest number of devices we have had connected simultaneously to an iPhone is around 8. Note that this was Heart rate sensors which typically use slow connection intervals. The most we have tried on Android, as I know of, is 3-4 with a short connection interval (20-30 ms).
