QFN Land Pattern in Reference Design

Hello Noridc,

Liking your solutions, and I appreciate the thorough documentation.

Working on layout and so I was looking carefully at your reference design Gerbers for the NRF52832 QFN package (infocenter.nordicsemi.com/.../nRF52832-QFAx_Ref_Layout_v1.1.zip)

Seems the land pattern pads don't extend fully under the package pins: Pins are nominally 0.4mm long, but pads measured from package edge (3.0mm from center) towards package center are only 0.3mm long.

Is this on purpose?

In my experience general guidance (TI, NXP) for QFNs is for the pad to be longer than the pin by 0.05mm towards the center of the package.

Hi,

The QFN footprint we're using should follow the IPC standard, and is generated using the IPC footprint generator in Altium. But if you need to extend the pads, feel free to do so.
