Philips (Dual IR/RF remote) connectivity

Hi!

I have some questions with regards to the Philips Dual IR/RF remote (and other remotes) using Nordic Semiconductor components:

www.nordicsemi.com/.../Advanced-QWERTY-keypad-equipped-Philips-DUAL-IR-RF-remote-control-uses-Nordic-RF-wireless-connectivity

"In operation, the DUAL remote handset utilizes a Nordic nRF24LE1 System-on-Chip (SoC) 2.4GHz ULP transceiver running a modified version of Nordic Gazell RF protocol software. An nRF24LU1+ System-on-Chip (SoC) 2.4GHz ULP transceiver and USB 2.0 compliant device controller, incorporated into a compact USB dongle, plugs into the host device (the product to be controlled) to form the other node of the wireless link. The Nordic RF technology enables a bi-directional communication link with sufficient bandwidth for rapid screen refresh and seamless navigation."

I would like to use the remote or any other Philips RF remote with qwerty, for example, 22AV1507A/12, YKF366-003, 398GF15BEPH07T, 398GF10BEPH09T, YKF384…, with my Philips Smart TV 43PUS6401/12. As I understand Philips Dual IR/RF comes with RF USB adapter/transceiver. Some PhilipsTV's also have a RF receiver built in. Philips manual for 43PUS6401/12 states, however, that the TV uses only IR connection for remotes. Could you, please, advise me whether it would be possible to use a separate USB receiver/transceiver (?) (for example, the one which comes with Philips Dual IR/RF remote) or other hardware to add functionality of the: 1) Philips Dual IR/RF remote to 43PUS6401/12; 2) Other RF remotes manufactured by Philips? Maybe there is some USB RF receiver/transceiver using some specific chip? Does other Philips RF remotes use Nordic components?

Philips manuals are a bit confusing as well - for example series 7100 manual describes RC as IR only, however it uses qwerty which in theory operates only via RF: www.philips.co.uk/.../support

As manuals are confusing - could it be possible that my Smart TV can operate via RF as well?

There is the manual of the: 43PUS6401/12 www.philips.co.uk/.../support

  • I found a Philips remote which is described as using a Bluetooth connection - 22AV1507A. As my goal is similar - to use a qwerty remote, I added few questions/thoughts to this topic with regards to the functionality of Philips Remote Control 22AV1507A. I have tried to ask those questions to Philips support as well but without any answers so far. Those questions are more in the competence of Philips itself, probably, but maybe somebody could shed some ideas there as well?

    1. Product Leaflet on the Philips site states that: "Bluetooth Remote Control requires available wireless channel. Performance may decrease when 2.4GHz network space is saturated." Bluetooth and 2.4Ghz are separate to as far as I understand. Does this remote operate through RF or via Bluetooth connection?

    2. Product Leaflet states that: "Bluetooth RC requires to be paired to the TV for use. Consult the installation manual of the TV for instructions." 55HFL7011T Leaflet on the Philips site states Bluetooth RC 22AV1507A/12 as an optional Accessory (this TV is compatible). 55HFL7011T Manual, however, does not mention anything on connecting such RC to the TV. Manual describes the TV model as compatible with IR remotes only. If both Leaflets tell that RC is compatible and that it is necessary to consult manual - why is there no information on this in the Manual of the TV?

    3. What are the general instructions for pairing BT remote with any compatible TV model, respectively - how to put the remote in discovery mode or which keys (key combination) must be pressed/hold? Is there a manual for the remote and/or some technical documentation available?

  • I agree, that this question should be the best answered by Philips. We, Nordic don't have the insight on how the remote works and what you TV 43PUS6401/12 support, or whether there is an USB dongle that you can use for that TV. But I will leave the question here, just in case someone have any idea can help you.
