BLE5 GATT throughput

Hi,

I have noticed the new preview DK for NRF82840 is now available, and the new chip is running the new BLE5 spec. My understanding on the BLE v5 is the higher data rate, longer range and broadcast capability as compared to BLE v4.x. I wonder if this higher data rate will have any improvement on the GATT throughput speed when I switch to the 2MBPS (High throughput mode)? Thanks!

  • Sure it is, read the blog.

  • Well because 95% of real BLE use cases require phone/tablet interoperability you can happily stay at 1Mbps data rate for couple of years, no real phone support today. But if you control both parts of the link and they do support 2Mbps then go ahead. Note that similar to previous BT SIG releases saying "BT5" will not guarantee anything in terms of feature support, many features are optional so you can label your product by fancy sticker but that's pretty much it;)
