nrf51822 operating temperature range

Hello,

on your product info page, the operating temperature range for the nrf81522 is indicated as -40..+105C, while on the datasheet the same value is -25..+75. nrf81524's datasheet indicates -40..+105, in line with the product info page.

Two questions arise:

1. where is the cause of the difference in the nrf51822 data?

2. is the nrf81524 100% functionally compatible with the nrf51822?

I assume you are talking about the nRF51822 and the nRF51422, as we don’t have any chips named nRF81522 or nRF81524.

The temperature range -40 to +125 degrees celsius, listed under absolute maximum ratings is the storage temperature range for the chips. This means when the chips are not in use but are being stored, for example for later production, the room temperature should not go outside this temperature range as the chip might take damage from it.

Under operating conditions the operating temperature is listed as -25 to 75 degrees Celsius, and when the chip is in use the temperature should stay within this range. If it gets colder or warmer than this, operation and safety is not guaranteed.

The chips are very similar, but there are a few differences between them, the nRF51422 is ANT+ compatible, and the nRF51822 is compatible with wireless charging to name a couple. You are quite right, it turns out there have been released some addendum I wasn't aware of which describes certain versions of the 51822 that have been qualified to operated in the -40 to +105 range. The addendum contains corrections to the chip spec when operated in the extended temperature range. You can find these addendum at the following link: infocenter.nordicsemi.com/index.jsp

The chips are very similar, but there are some differences between the two, for example, the 51822 supports low voltage power mode (not in the extended temperature range), while the 51824 doesn't. And the 51824 only comes in one package. I'm afraid we don't have an extensive spec comparison of the two, so you will have to compare the datasheets for more information.
