Does NRF52840-PDK's included J-Link OB suffice vs J-Link Base?

I recently ordered two NRF52840-PDK and a Segger J-Link Base to program/debug the boards. Then I just read that the development kit have a J-Link OB included, or I could use a J-Link Lite! Could I postponed a ~$400 buy, until production time? Or is the J-Link Base a better tool during development compared to the OB/Lite version?

  • Well, using the J-Link OB for product development purposes is OK, but once your product enters production you will have to buy a production programmer from J-Link. Otherwise, you'll be violating their licensing terms, see quote from their page below:

J-Link OB is provided as part of an evaluation board. It is not sold separately. It may only be used to debug the device on the evaluation board it came with. Support is given via the eval board manufacturer and via SEGGER forum. J-Link OB may not be used for production purposes.
