nRF52 IPv6 SDK/examples

Hi,

I'm looking at adding IPv6 connectivity to my nRF52-equipped product. When I last looked a year ago, things seemed to be moving along very quickly. However, looking again at how to get started, I only see this SDK:

developer.nordicsemi.com/.../

Which was last updated in December 2015. Is this the correct one? Since then there have been a whole bunch of bugfixes and improvements to the normal BLE softdevice, so I'm a bit concerned that nothing has changed - 18 months seems like a long time.

Or am I missing something? Has the IoT SDK been rolled into the normal SDK? If it has, I'm struggling to find any examples of its use?

  • Hi Gordon,

I am afraid that we cannot comment the release schedule for the IoT SDK. However, what I can say is that the IoT SDK is not dead and there will be a production release in the future.

The reason for the long release cycle is due to the fact that the IoT SDK depends on L2CAP Connection Oriented Channels, which is not supported by any of our production-ready SoftDevices yet (currently it is only the S1xx Prototype Device that supports Connection Oriented Channels). This feature will be added in future releases of our current SoftDevices, but as mentioned above I can unfortunately not give you any date for the release.

    Best regards

    Bjørn

  • My advice would be to wait until we release the new version of the IoT SDK. We are trying to keep the API similar, but as you might imagine, we've done a lot of improvements and refactoring of the code since December 2015. If you contact your local Nordic Regional Sales Manager, then he might be able to give you a rough estimate of when the release is going to be scheduled. Send me a PM with your location and I'll give you his contact info.
