I would like to drive an LED from the nrf51822 gpio How much current can the nrf51822.

Is there a recommended LED for direct connection to the nrf5182 as an indicator.

Or is a output driver required for this circuit?

For a small LED (biased in the ~2-5 mA area), you should be fine if you configure the GPIO like stated in this thread: devzone.nordicsemi.com/.../how-much-current-can-a-i-o-pin-sink
