nRF Sniffer: detect if connection is established?

Hi,

I want to use the nRF BLE Sniffer to detect wether a connection (between my fitness tracker and smart phone) is present or not. I am able to get the advertisement packets if no connection is established and to follow the connection after establishment (until the connection breaks down).

If the connection is lost by the sniffer it does not follow it anymore even if I come near to the sniffer with both devices again. My aim was to detect the connection between the devices or the advertisement of the fitness tracker in order to detect if I enter or leave the room/place. I am not interested in the content of the connection.

Is this possible?

Thank you Josh

  • Hi Josh,

If the connection really "breaks" down then sniffer stops following data channels according to agreed hopping sequence and comes back to advertising channels. If there is another connection established on the same Adv. address it should follow it again. Any problem with this scheme? Or you call "until the connection breaks down" some special event? in general Nordic sniffer is tool on pretty cheap HW coming "for free" so these are its basic limits (follow one advertiser and all CONNECT_REQ packets to it until it sees them...)
