Suggestion

Hi,

I need you suggestion / information about Nordic chip. We currently have nRF52 (nRF52832) chip. However, in our application we will be using Nordic beacons as an transmitter and we already have nRF51 beacon kit and on receiver side we have NRF52832 chip.

My question is that there are many new nordic chips that I can see on your website, so which one is better as we want better range and low power consumption chip.

Please suggest us Nordic chip and tell us that how that new chip is better than NRF52832.

  • Hi Usman

The nRF52 series have been extended with two more device in recent times; the nRF52840 and the nRF52810.

The nRF52840 is a high end device with more peripherals, memory and better radio performance (in terms of range it has a higher +8dBm max output power and support for the Bluetooth long range mode, which might be beneficial for you). It is worth noting that the nRF52840 is still not available in production quantities, but a preview development kit is available if you want to start development.

The nRF52810 is a low end device with less peripherals and memory, but in terms of power consumption it is probably the best of the three.

So to summarize, for optimal range pick the nRF52840, for optimal price and power consumption pick the nRF52810.

  • Hi

Development kits are available based on the preview part, and the production part will be released in Q1 next year.

There are a lot of differences between the two, and the nRF52840 basically has more of everything. More memory, more peripherals, better radio performance and so forth. For an overview of features you should take a look at the nRF52840 product page on infocenter. The product brief gives a quick overview of the features, while the product specification provides more details. The nRF52832 product page can be used for comparison.

As mentioned the nRF52840 can provide better range, yes. Either by using the higher output power, by using the 125kbps code phy option, or by combining the two.
