Connecting ANT pin of nRF52832 via connector

Hello,

I'm wondering that it is ok to route ANT line through board-to-board connector to chip antenna.

Because there is no space to place nRF52832 and chip antenna together on the same board.

So I'm planning to put chip antenna on the other board.

If it is ok, should I move all C & L components to other board?

  • You should really get someone with some RF background to guide you on this.

You can't just move matching components (C&L as you referred) to another board and expect it to all work out.

As discussed often on this site, the match C&L values provide changes the moment you move them even 1 mm closer or farther away from a device.

Functionally you can do what you propose and have the antenna somewhere else, but even if you get the match correct and have great microstrips and grounding, between the connectors and probably microcoax for the bridge you will have easily an extra 2-3dB of loss.

So if your link budget supports it then by all means go ahead. But I really recommend you get someone with some RF experience to help out.

  • Ok I should consult RF engineer about this issue. Thank you!
