How to troubleshoot nrfjprog "does not match the device connected" error?

When I use the "nrfjprog --eraseall -f nrf52" command, I get "ERROR: The --family option given with the command (or the default from nrfjprog.ini) ERROR: does not match the device connected.". I'm using a 64-bit PC running Ubuntu 16.04 LTS.

OK. So you use nRF52840 Preview DK board and you want to use SEGGER which is on board to program nRF52840 chip which is on the board or some external target? I believe you simply run too old NRFTOOLs, the latest package is version 9.6.0.
