nrf52840 - can't find device on windows pc

So I recently purchased an nrf52840 pdk and was following nordics getting started guide. however my pc will not detect my board when i plug it into the usb. When i plug the board in the led 1 lights up and led5 starts flashing rapidly. Any ideas as to what could be the issue?

  • Update: What I had written previously was not completely correct. Normally, if your PC cannot detect the nrf52 device anymore, it helps to reinstall the JLink Interface MCU FW by downloading the correct FW for your development kit (see link for 52840 dk, which also works for the 52840 pdk). Should be the same interface MCU FW for the 52840 PDK & the nrf52 DK. Once you have downloaded the .bin file, you can turn the dev kit off & hold the IF BOOT/RESET button while turning the dev kit on. You should then see the dev kit show up in File Explorer as a BOOTLOADER drive. Then, you can drag & drop the .bin file to the BOOTLOADER folder. This will reset the interface MCU FW & you should be able to see the dev kit on your PC again. You may need to power cycle the dev kit at the end.
