LCD Display driver

Does anyone know how to implement a wrist watch LCD display? I mean a bare LCD Display, without a pre-build driver (I2C). Can I do it directly or I need another IC to drive it? Do you know any suitable IC for driving a wrist watch display? The IC needs to be small in size. Thank you

  • Hi Marcio,

I suspect it would be very difficult to drive an LCD display directly from the NRF51 (LCD displays need the polarities of their drive signals reversed regularly to avoid charge buildup, and also have biasing requirements).

Holtek are a well known company making LCD display drivers. HT1621B is a part that is available in a gold-bump bare chip: www.holtek.com/.../1621.htm (there is a low voltage version available too). The gold-bumped ICs are normally bonded directly to the LCD display glass, and you might want to consider this option if you really want to get your size down small.
