Definitive guide for 'meander' PCB antenna?

I'm designing a small board with an nRF51822. I'd like to use a 'meander' PCB antenna similar to the ones on the Evaluation Kit and 'dongle'. Is there a definitive guide -- actual specification of width, length, circuit -- for this kind of antenna? (Of course, the nWP-008 isn't addressing this.)

Unfortunately, we don't have any definitive guide for the meander antenna. It can be a little tricky to design a meander antenna, because it radiates from the corners; when designing a meander antenna you want to make sure that the signals radiated from the corners result in construvtive interfernce.

In general we recommend to use the meander antenna on the dongle, because it has a decent range.

Edit: If you download the hardware files for the dongle (comes with the evaluation/development kit hardware files), you can measure the dimensions for the antenna fairly accurate using the altium or gerber files.

  • For future reference this is what I measured from the Gerbers: width=0.25 mm; segments 4.125, 2.2, 2.93, 2.0, 2.93, 1.95, 2.93, 1.95, 2.93, 1.85, 1.54 mm. This is measured the central spine of the antenna.
