Laptop won't recognize Nordic nRF52-DK

I just received the Nordic nRF52-DK, and am unable to do anything with it as my laptop does not recognize when it is connected. I do not have the original cable as I did not receive a brand new board, but I have tried two different Micro USBs, and neither of them work. One of the cables I used to charge my phone, while the other was a spare cable I had from ordering an electric razor, although I have never used the cable for anything. On the board, I have the switches set to ON, DEFAULT, and USB. I have also tried to connect it with one of the local computers on my college campus and it did not recognize it either. And by recognize, I mean both the board and laptop are unresponsive to being plugged in, almost as if they are.

  • I am guessing you have the nrf52840 PDK, right? If you have the switch set to USB, you need to power it from the nrf USB micro usb slot on the bottom right of the PDK. If you set the switch to VDD, you can power the board from the J2 micro USB connector. Normally, you want the nRF power source switch set to VDD & power the board from the J2 connector to the left of the power source switch. See this link for more info. This link could also be helpful. I would try this & if it doesn't work, you should try using a different micro USB cable like Matt mentioned above.
