Amazon FreeRTOS Support

i've seen examples in the nRF SDK using FreeRTOS and am very interested in integrating an (RT)OS for upcoming embedded projects since they very quickly outgrow the limits of "loop-based" execution.

with the new amazon FreeRTOS and cooperation partners (very interestingly also Wittenstein) i'd be interested to know if also nordic has any plans in joining this ecosystem / qualification program?

Hi,

This is quite early to say anything. But for now we are very careful in joining any new RTOS ecosystem. We already support Zephyr RTOS and FreeRTOS. We will closely monitor the market movements with Amazon FreeRTOS, but hard to commit at this stage.

Are any of the Amazon FreeRTOS OTA capabilities usable. we need to be able to update our NRF52832 firmware via GSM connection.

Hi Modles,

Looking at the documentation of the Amazong FreeRTOS OTA, it seems that they have an OTA mechanism that is MQTT based. If your device supports this mechanism, then you can use this feature from them. Our OTA is purely based on Bluetooth and needs to have few reserved pages in device flash to work properly.
