802.15.4 / Thread current consumption

Anyone done or seen current consumption measurements for the Thread SDK on nRF52840?

I need to understand relation with other technologies and other chipses on this, and I of course expect the nRF to be outstanding :) Numbers for routers with varying data amounts/nodes as well as for (sleepy) end devices would be really useful.

  • Hi,

Unfortunately, we don't have any data on current consumption in 802.15.4/Thread yet. The nRF52840 chips is only available in engineering samples, and the 802.15.4 MAC library and SDK for Thread is still experimental, and the results now will not necessary be identical with numbers of final chip and software. If you want to do current measurements yourself, I would recommend buying the nRF52840 PDK and the Power Profiler Kit which will show real-time current consumption of the device, making it easy to see current consumption in various modes.

    Best regards,
