Is there an existing method to determine the distance between the Bluetooth transmitter (board) and the receiver (Android/iOS)?

It's possible to use RSSI to detect (estimate) the signal strength and can convert that to distance. It will not be very accurate.

In fact, not at all accurate - really just a "near" or "far" indication.
