Using NRF connect for windows

Is it necessary to have one of your development boards if I only want to connect to BLE beacons?

I am not able to connect to any of my beacons

Hi,

nRF Connect for desktop requires a nRF5x DK or nRF51 Dongle, running our connectivity firmware, for scanning and connecting to BLE devices. Depending on your computer hardware and Windows version, there might be a BLE API available that you can use for creating custom BLE apps using an integrated Bluetooth card.

For prototyping purposes, I suggest getting one of our kits, or use nRF connect on your iOS or Android phone.
