What tools do I need to load the softdevice onto the nRF51822?
To flash a softdevice into an nRF51822, you need to use nRFgo Studio and a Segger programmer, for example a J-Link Lite, which comes with the Development Kit or the on-board chip on the Evaluation Kit. Select the correct board in the lower left device manager of nRFgo Studio, choose the softdevice hex file in the right-hand pane, and click program. Afterwards, things should look like the attached screenshot.
