How well does Beacon perform in congested traffic scenarios?

Hi there,

i am very curious about what can be considered as interrupt factor in receiving the signal from beacons, so if these scenarios have been tested please provide some info before deciding to rely on this technology in production.

Scenario 1:
If 100 people in motion - get in range in same time and there is an event that should be triggered to their cell phone, how many of them will get the message broadcasted by beacon?

Scenario 2:
What is the passing by speed limit in order for a 1 Bluetooth powered cellphone to receive the broadcasted message by beacon?

Hi,

1. I don't think we have any specific numbers here, it will depend on the advertisment interval of the beacon, and the scan window and interval of the phone. The advertisment interval is configurable when developing the beacon, while it is the OS (and possible the app) on the phone that control the scan window and interval. I assume it may be within the very few seconds (2-3seconds) before everyone have received the message.

2. If the phone pass by the beacon at the time it's advertising, then the phone will be able to receive the advertisment packet if the phone is listening at that moment. But if the passing speed is very high high and consider the rangefrom the beacon is 10-50m, then it may be that you pass by the beacon between advertisment intervals.

If i was in position to do an in depth research i regarding this issue i would do it without hesitation.
Hopefully in future since i consider it would be useful ... until then, if you share on some statistics of that kind, i owe you a beer.
