nRF52 gpio current protection

Hello,

I have got a question about gpio current protection in nRF52 - I have checked forum but I haven't found answer on this specific question. In nRF52 specification I have found that with gpio set as output with standard drive strength there is a possibility to pull up to 6mA from it and I would like to know what would happen if i tried to pull more (e.g. 30mA but still with the same standard drive strength, not high) or even make short circuit on it - does the gpio have any internal protection and current would be limited to 6mA or it would get damaged?

See page 155 and 156 of the nRF52832 Product Specification v1.3 which shows current graphs for port pins; other parts have similar specifications (nRF52840, etc) in the specific data sheets

Thanks for the answer but as I wrote in first post I have checked specification and I know max current values. What I don't know is what would happen if I tried to pull more or made short circuit -  does it cause only voltage drop or it can also damage gpio?

Voltage drop in my experiences, not actual damage, but switching sufficiently high current can cause a reset - for example, high drive trying to switch high a shorted pin to Gnd.

The most likely scenario is: Both. Over time, the pin is degraded due to the current consumption through a transistor-net that isn't designed for such a current.
