PPK with nRF52840 PDK flat line

I'm attempting to use the PPK with the nRF52840 PDK with no success.  I'm getting nothing running the nRF Connect with the Power Profiler.  Configuration is as follows:

nRF52840 PDK running Blinky Example.  Can scan and connect with an Android tablet running the Blinky app. (PPK run with Blinky advertising, not connected).

SB40 and SB41 are cut.

PDK connected and powered via USB cable on J2.  

PPK configured with SW2 = DK, SW4 = DK, SW3 = DK.  nRF Connect can see the PPK, connect via the COM port, and start the Power Profiler.  Log messages indicate averaging start and triggering started.

Any ideas what to do?

  • The PPK should only be able to measure on the VDD domain, not the VDDH. Could you try to resolder SB41 and see if that makes a difference at all? Not saying it will, just curious before we move forward. Is the PPK working with other DK-s (nrf51, 52830)?

    I thought I had originally tried the PPK on the PA10056 board with just SB40 cut and wasn't getting any results.  Then some online research seemed to indicate I had to also cut SB41,  so I did that.  From your reply, this seems to have been misinformation?  I can revisit this and try resoldering SB41.  But I was under the impression that putting a jumper on the VDDH connector would have the same effect.  Is this correct?  That would be easier than soldering.

    Are there schematics available for the PA10056 board?

    The only other board I have to try is a PCA10040 1.2.1 also just purchased.  I can try that with the PPK is you think it would help.  This will require cutting SB9, correct?

    The power readings I mentioned above were taken off a non-Nordic board with a BLE module advertising at 100 msec intervals.  The readings I got appeared to be what I expected, but I didn't try to verify with a meter or other instrument.  TBD.

  • Without making sure, I think sb41 is only for the high voltage setting. Yes, instead of soldering you can also just use a junior.

    Yes, cut sb9 and try on that board. The ppk was developed primarily for pca10028 and pca10040, but should work on pca10056 as well.

    The external measurements doesn't care what device it is, it can be just a resistor if you want ;) 

  • I see in this thread, that cutting sb41 was the solution, so disregard my comments about that one.

  • Sorry for the long delay.  I finally got around to plugging the PPK onto the nRF52 DK.  Appears to work fine measuring power running the blinky example and advertising.  It did not appear that the on board LED(s) were included in the power profile.

    At this point, I'm assuming the PPK is operating properly and there's some problem connecting the PPK to the PCA10056 board, either my board or in general.  I'll leave it up to Nordic to check this and we can close this as answered.
