nRF52840 DK availability

Quick question: when will the nRF52840 DK available? On the nRF52840 DK page, there is a recommendation to avoid the PDK:

"The nRF52840 replaces the nRF52840 PDK which is not recommended for new designs." but no distributor has any DKs in stock, only PDKs.

Thank you!

  • The DK should be available soon, if I am not mistaken the first batch should already be produced. The main difference between the PDK and DK is that the DK uses the final production version of the chip, while the PDK uses an engineering sample.

PDK, Revision 0.11.0 uses engineering revision B, chip marking BB0.

PDK, Revision 0.12.0 uses engineering revision C, chip marking CA0.

DK, Revision 1.0.0 uses Final silicon, chip marking C00. Some layout changes compared to PDK.

You can find the changes between Rev B and Rev C here. As you can see there is not a lot of changes, so as long as you are aware of the changes you can use the PDK for Evaluation/Development until the DK becomes available (not sure about the delay from production until it reaches our distributors).

  • Is there any update on when the expected availability for the final DK is going to be available in channel?  Even maybe just which Quarter of the year?

I saw Mouser says end of 2018, but I've seen them say 6 months out and have supply the next week so that may not be a real date.  But I've seen it work the other way too, so I'd rather hear from Nordic direct.

    Thanks!
