Support for coded S=8 extended advertising beacons

is there an expected release date for the soft device that supports the full bluetooth 5 specification including extended advertising beacons using a coded PHY with S=8(125 Kbit/s). Our product requires the full range of a bluetooth 5 coded system and we cannot make tremendous progress until that soft device is released in some way. We are using the nRF52840 device

The current soft device s140-sd-v6 only supports limited coded s=8 advertising

Edit:

I know that s=8 coded communications are in theory supported after connecting to a device but I need to simply advertise without having to connect with an s=8 advertising beacon and the release notes state that

"The LE Advertising Extension and LE Coded PHY implementations are incomplete and may not function as specified.
These features are only suitable for development purposes, not production."

  • Hi Mjkranz,

In the release note of the S140 v6.0.0, you can find in s140_nrf52840_5.0.0-3.alpha we already support advertising and establish connection using coded PHY (S=8):

The SoftDevice now supports establishing LE connections directly on either 2MBPS or LE Coded PHY (Long Range) in addition to
    1MBPS (DRGN-8280 and DRGN-8274).

  • Yes I know limited support is in place but the notes for the current soft device notes say that

"The LE Advertising Extension and LE Coded PHY implementations are incomplete and may not function as specified.
These features are only suitable for development purposes, not production."

So I am wondering when a production release is going to be available.

  • Hi Mikranz,

The main purpose of the note is that these features are not production qualified and therefore should not be used in production. It's functional but just not fully tested. Some features are also missing, for example chained advertising.

For evaluation and development, it's fine to try.

We plan to have AE features to be qualified in v6.0.1 but I don't have a clear date when it will be released.
