Mini-USB data lines

Hi all,

I am new to hardware design and would greatly appreciate pointers. We intend to use mini-USB port for charging/power supply rather than for data. What is the best way to terminate the unused mini-USB D+/D- lines - float or grounding them?

Thanks in advance, Sheikh

  • You can leave them floating or you can terminate them, if you are only using the USB interface for charging, it doesn't initially matter. But, some phone/tablet manufacturers puts voltage dividers on the data line in order to recognize a certain charger. So depending on what you want to charge, I would recommend to have a little look around google for USB charging whatever you are charging.
