I am really confused For Indoor Asset Tracking which is better Nordic Mesh SDK or Thread

I see Thread Supports Cloud connectivity.

Can the device based on nRF52840 detect Beacons in its vicinity

What you you mean ? Do yo have another case asking about detecting beacon ? 

We have an example showing how to do beaconing and scanning. Please have a a look at the beaconing example in the nRF5 Mesh SDK. The scanning part is in the rx_cb.

Yes. When talking about beacon, it means non-mesh beacon, in other words , normal BLE beacon.
