52810 WLCSP Light Sensitive

Hi Support Team,

Is there any information about light sensitive spec of 52810 WLCSP package?

What we concerns are:

(1) Which light is sensitive for 52810 WLCSP?

(2) Will the special light make a defect?

I have checked this link where someone says :

There are no long term effects or permanent damage done to a WLCSP if you expose it to IR light. You can wait as long as you want before you cover the pins.

But it points to nRF51 chips. How about nRF52?

Thanks,

Youqun

  • Hi Youqun,

The nRF52810 should have a top-side coating that shields it from light exposure from the top, the sides are still exposed and should be covered by some epoxy-like material if needed. The chip is sensitive to IR light, as silicon is translucent to these wavelengths.

The chip should not take damage. There will be current-increase in some low-power modules, and perhaps most significantly the 32kHz RCOSC will be less accurate or even unstable, depending on the amount of light exposure. If a product is used in sun/strong IR light exposure, customers might want to consider 32kHz crystal or using a shielding enclosure. Sleep currents might increase a little, but the chip will be functional as opposed to the nRF51 where the radio started drifting if exposed to light.

    Best regards,
