Gathering Information For My Project

Hello everyone,
I am looking to make a small tracker using nRF52832 chip. Can anyone please suggest me a board and a coin cell having very small dimensions so that my tracker size is very very small. I will be very thankful for the suggestions. Thanks.

  • Before you go too far with focusing on size alone, do you have a firm idea of performance of your tracker?

Your biggest factor here will be MCU activity, in particular RF duty cycle.

At it's peak you'll be drawing round 16mA when the RF is active. If your tracker is only broadcasting and not requiring two way communication then this power draw can be minimised based on the RF duty cycle - its the reason why BLE beacons running on CR2032 can last so long (the RF is off more than its on).

A CR2032 has a capacity of around 210mAH so I would start looking at batteries of around that capacity, just don't assume that all batteries are created equal, as due to internal resistances and the pulsed nature of current draw when the BLE is active that capacity may not be fully available to your application.

  • My tracker will have two way communication so therefore current consumption would be high. cr2032 is just what i would require but unfortunately its size is a bit big therefore i was looking for a smaller coin cell with around same specs.
