Pin Header "Protectors"

I have a weird question:

On the nRF DKs (51&52) there are pin headers to connect them to an Arduino.

When delivered, on these headers there are some sort of plastic clamps, presumably for protection?

What are these for?

What are these called?

Most importantly: Where can I buy them (I need these for another project)?

thx

  • Hi

The small plastic clamps on the headers are not for protection, but they are provided with the connectors to allow the pick and place machines used in assembly to more easily pick up the parts. This is a common feature on parts that have an irregular shape, but I don't think there are any way to purchase the clamps separately.

If you search for parts on Digikey you can filter on a feature called "pick and place", and I think this ensures that you get the parts with these clamps included.
