BlueTooth 5 device selection for indoor localization

Hi all,

I'm new to Bluetooth technology and just start some test for indoor localization using 52382. But I find out that 52382 does not support the long range feature of Bluetooth 5, so now I want to switch to 52840. As there are 52840 dongle and DK version, I'm not sure if these two all support the long range feature or which one I should choose.

My test is really at the early stage so I just need to test the RSSI distribution accrording to distance. For example, a dongle connect to PC and receives RSSI data from a DK from 50 meters away, I'm not sure if this is doable.

Is there anyone who have this experience and kindly to give me some advice? Or anyone from Nordic whom I can make contact to?

Hi Aries,

 The nRF52840 chip supports the long range feature from Bluetooth 5. Since both the nRF52840 dongle and the nRF52840 DK has the same chip, they both supports it.

Hi Martin,

Thanks a lot! I am not sure if I can use my laptop connected to a dongle which directly receives the RSSI from DK and stores the data and visualize it using nRF connect desktop. Or I can only do this via a dongle connected to a laptop which detects the signal strength between 2 DKs?
