power consumption in thread and mesh for NRF52840 DK

I did current measurement for NRF52840. For mesh light switch demo example measurement was 10 mA, and for Thread CoAP Examples current measurement was 0,6 mA. I don't understand why these measurement are so different.

  • Hi,

Exactly which Thread example did you measure? The collection of CoAP examples consists of both Routers (Full Thread Device - TFD) and (Sleepy) End Devices (Minimal Thread Device - MTD).

If you tested a MTD example, the current consumption could be significantly lower than the Bluetooth Mesh light switch demo examples. A FTD example should have similar current consumption (approximately the radio RX current, as the device needs to be ready to receive packets at any time).

You should also make sure that the examples are in the correct state when you do the current measurement. If the device is not part of a network, it might not have the same current consumption it will have in the state it will be in most of its lifetime.
