Bluetooth sig

Is it possible to use original Nordica qualification for certification purposes or it is required to qualify the profile on FG?

  • Assuming that you are producing a new device then you will need to register it with the Bluetooth SIG.

Unless you are using a pre-certified module as opposed to a chipset (NRF52832 processor and supporting circuitry) then you will need to get it certified.

  • Yeah, but even if you use a module you still have to declare it with SIG and that is $2,500 even on the innovation incentive program.  But you can probably get out of FCC, IC and CE with a module so still a cheaper choice.

  • Not sure i fully understand...at my last product i used TI component with my PCB design,

we used based on BQE the certification number that existed for the COMPONENT only.

SIG 0s for the profile, is the profile is same and Ant is being tested in RF testing , what is the benefit for repeating the same proflle testing if it was qualify already?

  • I think that you're missing the point here.

If you have a product that is sold as using Bluetooth, ANT, ZigBee etc. then you have to register that product with the governing bodies/associations for that technology regardless of any regulatory testing requirements for the region in which you aim to sell your product e.g. FCC, ETSI.

The Bluetooth SIG has and will take companies to court over trademark infringement for selling unapproved devices that are claimed to be Bluetooth compliant.

It's a one off fee per product design and if you're using a certified module, software stack, profiles and services it's really a paper exercise.

If you alter the source code for a manufacturers Bluetooth stack then you will need to get that certified, which is why Nordic only supply the SoftDevice as a precompiled binary.

If you're using a module that has FCC certification, for example, then that will reduce the amount of testing required by the FCC when selling in the USA, but your product as a whole will still need to be submitted for FCC approval of EMI/EMC testing as a minimum.

At the end of the day you can opt to sell a product without any approvals or certifications, just not legally in most cases, certainly I've seen plenty of devices with fake certification in the past, but eventually the governing bodies catch-up with the producer.

  • I think you are missing the point

i am asking something very simple - NOT RELATED TO FCC/CE Radio testing and so on

    1. Bluetooth sig royalties need to be paid - this is clear.

    2. I am NOT using any module approval ( unit which passed modular approval as defined by FCC)

    3. the component was qualified by Bluetooth sig

    4. Any design usually will require GATT changes ( as in mine case)

    5. I did not alter the stack provided by Nordic

6.I would like to have the ability to use the bluetooth mark therefore i need to complete the process for SIG

7.SIG is checking the compliance for the protocol.

now what is not clear here is terminology of what is the profile.

    the question is very simple

Assuming I am using the COMPONENT can I use the same UUID to get Bluetooth sig approval or i need to re-qualify?

I can say that i certified before another BLE product (sane case), and with the BQE we decided to use the exist qualification ...what is the difference here?
