'Thread Group' membership when using nRF52840 and OpenThread

Good day,

We are planning in developing our own custom-made nRF52840 PCB using the reference schematics provided by Nordic Semiconductor.

In the initial phase of our development work, we will be testing our nRF52840 PCBs performance and later we would like to use our nRF52840 PCBs for application deployment using OpenThread.

My question is when one uses the SDK for OpenThread and develop one's own custom nRF52840 PCB, does one have to become a member of the Thread Group?

Also, is there a certification process that needs to be followed since we are using Thread technology?

Hope someone can shed some light on this.

Roger

  • Hi,

Please refer the page about membership benefits on Thread groups webpage. This is from a blog post about OpenThread:

Companies that decide to build products and solutions using OpenThread Released by Nest will need to join the Thread Group at the Contributor level or higher in order to complete the product certification process and ship Thread-certified products. Upon joining, members are granted access to the most current Thread Specification. In addition, Thread members enjoy RAND-RF (royalty free) IP usage rights.

You do not need to become a member to get access to and evaluate the Thread SDK, but you do need to become a member to certify and sell products. Membership will also give you access to the thread specifications.

    Best regards,
    Jørgen
