Connect NRF52-DK and thingy52 to mesh network.

Hello.

I have one of these dk and one thingy52 and I would like to connect them to mesh network, I read somewhere that I can use my phone as provisioner so is it possible to achieve this and what kind of software do I need for this to work? Does any of existing examples will do?

Hi,

You can use the nRF Mesh on either Android or iOS to provision the devices. You can have a look here under "Provisioning with nRF Mesh app" to get more information on how you can use the app. As for firmware, you can find a demo for the Thingy:52 here. For the nRF52-DK, you should check out our Mesh SDK here, have a look at the light switch proxy examples.

 You can use either one, depends on what you want your node to be(server or client).

No, you don't need a phone with bluetooth 5.0. You might have used the client/server examples without proxy. To be able to find the devices, they need to be flashed with an example with the proxy feature enabled. Both examples mentioned above have this feature enabled.

Something worked but here is first in series of questions. ;)

Phone app you mentioned above sees only thingy, I flashed dk with Light switch client (Proxy) however description of the Light switch server (Proxy) says:

The proxy server application can either be provisioned and configured by the provisioner device like the light switch server, or by a GATT-based provisioner.

so I am wondering is this expected behaviour or both devices (thingy and dk) should be visible by this application in this case?

Both the DK and thingy should be visible in this case. What Mesh SDK version are you using? and what type of phone?

I tried with both the light switch client(proxy) and light switch server(proxy) with a Samsung Galaxy S7, and it worked fine. Not sure why you can't see it, can you try with the proxy server example and see if you get the same behaviour?

Hi.

I tried with both proxies server and client and the behaviour was the same, phone did not see dev board but tomorrow I'll try one more time.

One question though, should I use this softdevice from generic nrf52 sdk or is there any more specialized version of this stack for mesh purposes?

As it turned out it works if you build this in Debug mode if you build Release mode it does not work!!!
