Is it possible to watch the "p_adv_report" while debugging

Hi, probably a simple answer to this but am struggling to find a decent answer on the web.

There is a function (below) and I would like to watch the p_adv_report. However I am not sure what the variable type "const *" means. Is it a pointer to somewhere?

Basically I would like to create a local variable that I make equal to this report, so I can set a watch on it.

You can see I added a test variable to watch the data length which works ok, but I can't figure out how to watch the whole message.

You should be able to watch the adv_report that is pointed at by p_adv_report without copying it to a local variable, but that also works.

To make sure you get the whole struct, I would recommend setting the memcpy size parameter to "sizeof(p_adv_report)".

The adv_report is generated by the softdevice. It is stored in RAM. The pointer gives you the address where the struct is located.

Ok thanks. With the copy sizeof(p_adv_report) = 0x04 which is not right I think. The size of giving the size of the pointer probably. Is there a way to get the size of the adv_report?

Sorry, my bad. It should be "sizeof(*p_adv_report)". You can also use the struct type itself to get the size: "sizeof(ble_gap_evt_adv_report_t)".

On a side note, should the manufacturer data be in the advertisement report also? Can't see it anywhere. 

It may be that active scanned needs to be on? If so is there a different event triggered for the manufacturer data?

Manufacturer Specific data is available in the data field of the struct. This field can contain multiple data types, preceded by length and data type fields. You need to parse it and look for the type BLE_GAP_AD_TYPE_MANUFACTURER_SPECIFIC_DATA. If you use SDK 15, you can use the Advertising and Scan Response Data Encoder module to help you with this.

Active scanning will help you get scan response packets in addition to advertising packets. If your manufacturer specific data is located in the scan response packet, you will have to have active scanning enabled to get it.
