BLE Control by Main CPU (MCU):

1. How the MCU communicates with BLE HW?

2. What is the amount of MCU performance is required to control the BLE?  (expected answer example: Every 1 mSec the MCU requires 100uSec)

3. During debug time, if I stop the MCU, does the BLE HW remains working, or should I perform MCU Reset?

4. We have IAR IDE environment, Can we keep it as development environment? if Yes, what need to do to make it work with the Nordic MCU chip?

5. Does it support OS in general? and more specific frreeRTOS?

6. Do you have automatic code generator similar to CubeMX by ST?

7. do you have sample code to demonstrate Peripheral / client Communication, running on 2 EVBs?

Hi,

Are you planning to use the nRF52840 as an external BLE chip for another MCU, or are you asking about the communication between CPU and Radio in the system.on-chip (SoC)? You do not need external MCU with nRF52840, it have CPU that is shared between application and radio operations.

1. See AHB multilayer and RADIO documentation.
2. This will depend on type of BLE activity and how much data is transferred. See softdevice documentation Bluetooth Low Energy processor usage patterns.
3. Halting the CPU will cause the Softdevice to assert. This can be worked around by using J-Link Monitor Mode debugging feature.
4. Yes, our SDK support IAR. Please download the SDK and follow the Getting Started section.
5. Yes, FreeRTOS is supported in our SDK. See RTOS support.
6. No, but there is examples for most peripherals, features and BLE use-cases in the SDK.
7. Yes, see BLE Peripheral and BLE Central examples in the SDK.
