dongle doesn't work anymore

Hi, I am following the user guide nRF51822 Evaluation Kit User Guide v1.2, the heart rate monitor demo, Scaning for available Bluetooth low energy devices: I started the the Master Control Panel 3.7.0, my Development Dongle was detected (COMnn-xxxxxxxxx) , then a dialog box asking about upgrading the firmware had the a title of: "J-Line j Firmware update" and contained the following text: "A new firmware version is available for the connected emulator. Do you want to update to the latest firmware version? Y click on Yes with this result:

New firmware: J-Link OB-SAM3U128 V1 compiled Aug 22 2014 17:25:44
Current firmware: J-Link OB-SAM3U128 V1 compiled Aug 27 2013 15:22:27
Starting bootloader...
Waiting for emulator to detach... OK after 377ms.
Waiting for emulator to attach... Timeout.
ERROR: Communication timeout. Emulator did not re-enumerate.
ERROR: Firmware update failed

After that the dongle is not working anymore: not detected for the Master Control Panel anymore, no led working...

I reinstalled J-Link v4.92 , checking: Install USB Driver for J-Link and Install USB Driver for J-Link with Virtual COM Port with the same result :-( Thanks in advance for any help

  • The same thing happened to me. I manually uninstalled the J-link USB and COM port driver in Device manager, pulled out the dongle, restarted the computer, plugged it back in. The drivers automatically reinstalled. And it worked. Maybe you did the same thing, but anyways, I don't think the dongle is bricked, it's just some driver issue.

Also, you can try to open nRFgo Studio as the first program after you reinstalled the drivers. I've had more success with firmware updates there for some reason...
