nRF Sniffer only shows advertisements

Hi,
I am using the following setup:
Wireshark 2.6.5 (updated yesterday)
Sniffer 2.0.0-beta-3 (nrfsniffer200beta312oct20181c2a221.zip)
nRF52840-DK (used by the sniffer)
nRF52840-Dongle in connection with nRF Connect 2.6.1 (on Windows 10)
used as peripheral.
BQ Aquaris X5 plus running nRF Connect 4.21.0 (on Android 7.1.1)
used as central.

I have installed the sniffer as described in nRF_Sniffer_User_Guide_v2.2.pdf
and have no problems capturing the BT LE packets - but only as long as the
peripheral is advertising. If I connect (without encryption), I get no more
packets from my own devices, despite in the nRF Connect app I can receive
data (for example changed values from the battery service I included). If
I disconnect, and restart the advertising, the new packets show up in the
wireshark window.
I already worked through the troubleshooting section of the user guide but
with no success.

I am aware other people have posted similar questions, but the solutions
seem not to be applicable to my problem..
So I would be glad for any suggestion.

Hi Dirk,

 

Once the device is selected from the drop down menu at the top, it should follow the connection, unless the sniffer lost the CONNECT_REQ packet.

Is this happening every time, or only once-in-a-while?

Hi Håkon,

thank you for your answer, which solved my problem. Feeling a bit dumb after I found that the solution was already mentioned in the sniffer user guide ch. 5.3. Just a case of RTFM :-(

Don't worry. I make similar mistakes ;-) It's always better to ask than to waste hours trying to figure out what's wrong.
