No clock signal at the SCL pin of the Sparkfun nRF52832 breakout board

I am trying to use the Sparkfun nRF52832 breakout board as a master in I2C communication. I am using Arduino IDE to program the module. I defined pins 24 and 25 as SCL and SDA, respectively, and used wire.begin() in the setup to configure it as a master. I expect to see the clock signal when I connect the board to the oscilloscope, but I just see 3.3v dc signals at both scl and sda pins. Would you please tell me what's wrong?

Have you tried talking with sparkfun or arduino tech support yet? Were they able to help you? In general, I would recommend to use the nrf5 sdk when programming an nrf52832. We have some good documentation when it comes to i2c with examples too.

I actually could see the clock when it begins a transaction, but the device I am trying to control is configured as a master and I cannot change that. The device takes control of the bus all the time.

That's correct - the clock is only generated when it's needed.

Then you need to configure the nRF as a Slave.
