Question

I starting working with examples for the nRF9160. Zyphr seems like a very complicated OS (like Linux with device trees, etc) and difficult to use with a debugger. 
 
 Is the interface to the modem documented such that I can simply send AT commands from a much simpler application (Say bare metal or with FreeRTOS)?

Yes, the AT commands supported by the nRF9160 modem is documented here . We have a AT client example in the nRF Connect SDK, see here on github.

Thanks for the answer. I was trying to find the documentation on the IPC interface between the application CPU and the modem CPU. Could you direct me to the right location? Maybe I am just overlooking it.
