The nRF8002 chip can be used as a tag, once you have configured the nRF8002, it can be used to estimate the distance between the tag and the phone.
So will I need to buy the development kit in order to configure the chip? Also, can you guide me regarding which chip will be apt for my project, nRF51822 or nRF8002?
The nRF8002 and nRF51 will work for you, you can get started on the nRF8002 using a simple breakout board of the nRF8002 or the nRF8002 development kit. You can also use the nRF51. The nRF8002 does not require any software programming , while the nRF51 is flexible. I suggest you do a few experiments to understand which one fits your needs.
