How about nRF9160 Certifications in China and how many BANDs are supported?

Hi,

It‘s great thing that the nRF9160 DK can buy.

But there are few question need to be confirmed?

1, I saw the "Onging ceretifications" (https://www.nordicsemi.com/Products/Low-power-cellular-IoT/nRF9160-Certifications).

it seems just only one band (B5) are supported in china? This band is china telecom band.

2,  There are more bands to be supported in china?

3, Is it time to do nRF9160DK test in china?

thanks

Andy

  • Hi Andy,

    2) As it says below in the link you sent: "Our test team and testing partners will continue to add regions and bands to this list in order to cover as much as possible of the globe."

    3) It seems that B5 is being certified as we speak. I am not sure how long this process takes. I sent you a PM with more info. If you want to be early out to market, it might be a good idea to start testing soon. Your local Regional Sales Manager should be able to help you in regards to when you can start to test.

    Kind Regards,

    Bjørn

  • Hello ,

Such a great chip and I won't be able to buy it! India's fastest growing telco provider Jio (aka Reliance Jio) relies on B40 for most of their network. Jio is like the Walmart of telcos here in India. I'm not doubting your demographics, but any serious developer in India is not going to recommend a chip that didn't cover Jio completely. Your demographic analysis may be inadvertently fragmenting India by not taking the latest Reliance Jio network growth into account. Or someone there may stop to consider India is about 1/5 of the world's population (18% actually).

    Thanks for listening!
