NRF52840 Dongle not detected

I just bought a nRF52840 dongle and tried it out today. When I plugged it into a USB port on my computer running windows 10, it does not appear as a external drive. The red led is blinking. When I launch nRF Connect, I cannot detect the dongle also. I tried to press the reset button on the dongle but it still does not work.

Anyone can help? Thanks!

  • When the dongle is connected to my computer USB port, should it appear as a USB drive on windows explorer? Because, now it doesn't.

And its not working with nRF Connect Bluetooth Low Energy App. It doesn't detect the dongle.

  • I deleted the Bluetooth Low Energy App on nRF Connect and reinstalled. Now I can detect the dongle on the Bluetooth Low Energy App. The dongle still doesn't appear as a USB drive. I am not sure if it is suppose to.

  • Hi.

I see you have created another ticket, so I will not answer in that. It should appear as a USB composite device after a few seconds. Does the status light (LD2) pulsate red?

    Best regards,

    Andreas

  • Hi Andreas,

When I plug in the dongle to the usb port of my computer, the status light (LD2) is not pulsing red. It does not appear as a USB drive on windows explorer.

From the computer's device manager I can see Nordic Semiconductor DFU-> nRF Connect DFU Trigger, and under Ports (COM&LPT) -> nRF Connect USB CDC ACM

I can detect the dongle from nRF Connect (v2.6.1) with both the Bluetooth Low Energy App (v2.2.0) and Programmer App (v1.0.1).

    Cheers,

    Kian

  • Hi again.

You have to put it in bootloader mode, as shown in the documentation here.

    Best regards,

    Andreas

  • Hi Andreas,

Thank you. I know I need to press the reset button for the LED to blink in red. I can already program the dongle using nRF connect.

When you mention that "It should appear as a composite device", I have the impression that when I plug in the dongle, it should emulate an external drive and I should see a new drive letter appearing on windows explorer. I guess it doesn't happen that way.

    Thanks.
