nrf51822 DK and EK 'not recommended'

I see the nrf51822-DK and and nrf51822-EK are now marked 'not recommended'. Why is this?

I now see an nRF51-DK and an nRF51 dongle. Are these now the current development products for nrf51822 development?

Do these new products have the latest version of the nrf51822 which seems to have some of the PANs fixed, if they do, I guess it may be time for an upgrade. If not, when should we expect products with the latest chips to start shipping?

Is there no-longer a current, recommended product which works with the nRFGO starter kit? Would be a shame as that kit has quite a lot on it, lots of buttons, lots of leds etc.

  • Hi RK,

With the release of the new nRF51 DK and Dongle, the legacy Dev Kit and Eval Kit are not recommended.

However, the new SDK (v7.0) will still support them.

The new nRF51DK and Dongle comes with the nRF51422 XLR3+ which is the latest version of the nRF51 and with 32kB of RAM. With the nRF51422 chip on you should be able to develop both ANT and BLE application.

The new DK kit has 4 buttons and 4 LEDs and it is hardware compatible with the Arduino shield, so you can extend the peripherals (more LED and button for example) pretty easy.

  • Guess I'm going to spend some more money ...
