BLE core specification 5.1 new application

Hello Nordic

Bluetooth SIG had released their new bluetooth core specification 5.1 with new feature is " Direction Finding ".

I know that all nrf52 now support BLE 5.0 specs, so how about with BLE 5.1 ?

Will you only update new softdevice ? or will you make new microcontroller ?

Thanks for your answer.

  • I certainly apologize, but you yourself read the document to which you refer?

The essence of the method lies in the fact that at least one device must work with an antenna array to form an adaptive radiation pattern. Only on this basis, we can assume that the current microcontrollers are not able to fully support the specification 5.1. In addition, may need to be new certification for microcontrollers.

Besides, there are more interesting and useful innovations in that document (caching of the attribute table, synchronization through advertising packages)

I suggest that there will be limited support for some of the new features. I would look at this list.

Well, the question on the new microcontroller, is it planned to expand the line :) ?

  • Hi,

All information regarding roadmaps goes through our sales organization, so you will have to contact your local Nordic Regional Sales Manager. If you do not know who your local RSM is then send me a PM and I'll send you his contact info.

  • Some information about this has now been made public. We are soon releasing a new device called nRF52811 that has Bluetooth 5.1 support for direction finding with AoA and AoD. Please see this and this post.
