Bluetooth Mesh Low Power Node

Hello,

We are currently evaluating the Bluetooth Mesh solution for our product-line that consists of a Bluetooth Gateway that can communicate with battery-powered devices to retrieve information about the devices, push OTA and Configuration information to the devices and also be able to receive events from the devices. Due to range and network interference issues, the solution is currently restricted to 1 Gateway supporting up to 10 battery-operated devices.

In order to extend the range and get better connectivity, we are looking at the possibility of using the Mesh, where the Gateway can act as the Proxy and the low-power devices would, via Friend nodes, communicate to it. Is there a suitable solution available from Nordic for the Low-power nodes that we could explore? Also, what would the idle and active current consumption for a given low-power node be?

Is there any other solution that we could explore?

  • Hi,

We do have an experimental LPN example that you could have a look at. Here is some relevant information that you could also take a look at, Low Power node feature and Integrating Low Power node feature.

    Power consumption:

LPN in idle mode: Average current for the 7s window is 3.078uA

LPN sends a mesh packet: Average current for 7s window is 10.058uA

Note that this is what the power consumption is in the current code, we are working on improving the power consumption for LPN.

  • Hi Mttrinh,

I have set up this demo, and it works. But I cannot finger out how this sample demonstrate LPN feature of mesh.

There are "nRF5x Mesh LPN Switch" "nRF5x Mesh LPN " and "Friend" nodes in the documentation, but I cannot find "nRF5x Mesh LPN " node, which is should be the low power node to request message from the  "Friend" node. I suppose the demo is incompleted.

Could you kindly double check this issue? Thanks!
